Window Cleaning Tips

How often do you clean the windows in your home, and how long do they stay clean after you do? The answers are probably too often, and not very long. Some of the most maddening blemishes on a clean window are water spots. Generally it’s pretty easy to determine where those spots came from, be it rain, or a mischievous sprinkler, but others are more mysterious. We wanted to give you some tips on how to avoid spots in the future.

Water Spots

Whether you have hard water, or just have dried, hard to clean spots, they can be a real headache and a pain to clean. Window cleaner is often a good choice, but so is a white vinegar solution. Try a solution of one cup warm water and one cup white vinegar and sponge the spots, then immediately squeegee the window. If your spots still remain try using a more concentrated mixture of half a cup of water and one and a half cups of vinegar.  If that doesn’t work you can always try straight vinegar. Just don’t get it in your plants.

Yellow Spots

Does your home get yellow mystery spots on the windows? Recently a company in California determined that these spots are actually bee droppings, so if you have bees by your home, you now know the culprit. They can be notoriously hard spots to get rid of, and for these we suggest using only purified water, no soap, no chemicals.
