Now is a great time of year to get to some of those home improvement projects around your house. You know the ones we’re talking about. They are probably on a “to do” list that was written months ago. Now that Halloween is over and it’s a little early to put up Christmas decorations, why not get to some of those projects? Remember to stay safe when you do. Here are some tips on safe home improvement.

Doors. Maybe you’re ready to give an old door a new look. Replacing those doors is always an option. If you decide to go the renovation route, considering repainting the door. If you do, you may end up sanding it first. Make sure to use a safety mask to avoid breathing in excess dust. You should also use eye protection, like a good pair of safety goggles.

Fixing Up Furniture. Maybe it’s time to renovate old furniture. If you decide to use finishing products (like paint strippers), check the safety instructions. Some products can be harmful to lungs and skin. Try to do the work in a ventilated area. Wear a dust mask or safety ventilator. Use a quality pair of painting gloves. Use protective eyewear.

Insulation Installation. The proper amount of insulation is crucial to your home’s energy efficiency. If you decide to use fiberglass insulation, make sure to wear long-sleeved and long-legged clothing to reduce the chance of irritation. Use gloves, goggles and a safety mask.

Bathroom repairs. It may be time to replace or repair ceramic tile in a bathroom. Make sure to remove all the grout around the tile. Use a chisel to remove the actual tile. Some of that tile can be sharp so remember to slip on a dependable pair of gloves. And grab those safety goggles.
