To the untrained eye, a window may look more or less like a window. That’s why you need to a checklist to clue you in to the details so you know what to look for before you sign off on the finished job.
Check for Operation
As you walk through your Dayton home, it is important to check each window, especially your double-hung windows, to completely ensure that all of the hardware is in working order. While you are doing this, ask the technician to show you how to open the windows inwards for cleaning if your windows have that function. Windows should move freely without hanging, and all locks should work smoothly. It is important that you check every window, and not skip.
Check the Seals
Your windows must be sealed inside and out to provide the benefits of energy efficiency that you are looking for. Check the seals to make sure that they are complete and free of bubbles. You should try to check outside seals as well whenever possible to make sure that bad weather can’t get in.
Check the Trim
Once the seals are inspected, it’s time to take a step back and look at the window trim. If you ordered trim to match your siding or accent your windows, you want to make sure that the color and fit are correct. You should also make sure that nothing is loose that could fall or get damaged during a storm.
Clean Up
The final step of your walkthrough should be looking to make sure that all trash and debris have been removed from the site, and anything that was moved is back in place. If you find trash or waste, make sure to point it out so it can be picked up before the installers leave the site.
Paperwork
With your inspection done, you will likely be given final paperwork. Make sure that you can locate the team lead’s name and contact information in your paperwork, and that you have a customer service number to call if you discover any issues later on. In addition, make sure that you know how to make warranty claims if necessary.
Your post-installation walkthrough shouldn’t take very long, and your team lead should be able to answer any questions you have along the way.
